At the start of April, Matt Hancock and the government promised 100,000 Covid-19 tests daily by April 30th, in line with other countries. Today is that day, yet on average, only 33,455 people have been tested. Earlier last week, the government’s own online test application closed within 10 minutes, leaving millions still worried and left in the dark.

The government claims that we must all work together; however it continues to lie and make promises it can’t keep. Today, shocking claims have emerged of local Furness care homes being ‘overrun’ by Covid-19. Many working in these homes are still without adequate PPE.

Barrow Borough Councillor and Health and Wellbeing Spokesperson for the Borough, Iain Mooney:

“It’s sad and shocking to see Furness and the country let down again by these false promises.

“At a time when the country has come together to honour service workers and abide by guidelines, many are still left behind.

“It is crucial that the government tell us the truth and cooperate with us as a community, to protect workers and residents.”
